Musical visionary Danger Mouse and iconoclastic filmmaker David Lynch pool their talents and reveal the stunning and haunting photographs from their groundbreaking project Dark Night of the Soul at Art Basel Miami Beach 2009.

Dark Night of the Soul is a full-length album and illustrated book, combining the talents of Danger Mouse, David Lynch and celebrated rock recluse Sparklehorse. In addition to the hardcover book, the album includes vocals from the Flaming Lips, Julian Casablancas of The Strokes, Frank Black of the Pixies, Iggy Pop, Nina Persson of The Cardigans, Suzanne Vega and many others.

The exhibition consists of over 50 original photographs by David Lynch which are displayed alongside the accompanying soundtrack by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse. Seven limited edition prints of each photograph will be available for purchase. The exhibition will open December 2, 2009 as the much anticipated kickoff to Art Basel week 2009.

Overcast, but a quick local trip proved Lincoln Road was packed with various global travelers helping the U.S. market with their “Holiday Sales” figures. Lot’s of shopping bags and hungry consumers.

25 years ago … Mark and I shared a love of music during our teens in Kennebunkport/Kennebunk. I remember trying to come up with band names in Mrs. Dubay’s attic with Adam, Mark, John and … ? I also bought my first amp with him (from some cook at The Landing) and used to jam in the front of my Mom’s shop in Dock Square – “The Scottish Corner” – at night only to be told to keep it “down” by the local authorities. I moved down to Boston and then, in what seemed like the blink of an eye, he was gone.

I missed the fact that a little over 25 years ago11/7/84 – I saw P.I.L (Johnny Lydon, a/k.a. Johnny “Rotten” of the infamous Sex Pistols). I loved their music, when I had just turned 20 in the big city known as Boston, and my rent was a mere $200 in trendy South End. I had also just started interning in the Art Dept. at the in the main office for the local Boston clubs (on Landsdowne St., o)  Spit/Metro, so I got on the “guest-list”:

P.I.L.US ‘This What You Want…’ Tour / Metro – Boston, MA

Band: John Lydon: Vocals / Martin Atkins: Drums / Bret Helm: Bass / Mark Schulz: Guitar / Jebin Bruni: Keyboards

Set List: Order Of Death (Intro) / Bad Life / Solitaire / Low Life / Where Are You / 1981 / Religion / Annalisa / Bodies / Public Image / Tie Me To The Length Of That / Anarchy In The UK / This Is Not A Love Song / Holidays In The Sun / Chant

I think SSD opened … Springer (vocals) & Co. seemed to be enjoying themselves!

They’re on Tour in the UK for a handful of dates – one is in Glasgow at The Academy on the 18th(!), so if I plan it just right, I may spend Christmas in Scotland with Mum, and take in a wee show or two. Mum also mentioned that the same night in nearby Dunfermline (ARG!) that The Red HotChili Pipers will be playing at the newly renovated Alhambra Theater.

Just so you know, I lost my wi-fi at home, so now I only post when I find free wi-fi.

Lauris came down for a visit (we went across country some 20 years ago) …
