A long, long time ago … 2ndOff_ssus1959_sm.jpg My Father used to work for the United States Lines as a Second Officer on the S.S. United States back in the days of the luxury liner and cross Atlantic passages! It was the fastest ship of its day and set a cross-Atlantic record that still remains unbroken – 3 days, 10 hours, 40 minutes – speed up to 35.59 Knots (real fast!). nyc_famous_ships_pc.jpg I went over on it when I was 12 weeks old (supposedly Mum got a little sea sick crossing the Atlantic) sometime in Dec. 1964. I’m up in Maine with Dad at the moment going through all sorts of his “stuff”, so stayed tuned! For more info on the S.S. United States

The CLIO’s (Global Advertising Awards) are in Miami this weekend, so I thought I’d go and see Ralph Steadman (part of the Saatchi & Saatchi Hero Show) at the Gansevoort South Hotel.Mr. Steadman has been an artistic hero of mine from way back, I’ve been a huge fan of his since I first caugt a glimpse of his work in the 70’s. Illustrations for Rolling Stone, New Yorker and Hunter S. Thompson novels to name a few, as well as an accompished “artist” (i.e.: “Blot Symphony”). Anyways, I could of listened to this guy talk for hours, really fascinating stuff and lots of funny stories. He was Hunter S. Thompson’s right (left?) hand man!
