… The Great One! Hmmm, how to best preserve/save an historic Miami Beach building in honor of  the man who put this place (“SoBe”) on the map, back in the 60′s - how sweet it is … Jackie Gleason!

The full schedule of meetings, most of which start at 6 p.m., is as follows:

Feb. 27: MBCC > Flamingo Ballroom 4, Hall C Entrance – “to identify guiding principles for the master plan based on community input.”

Feb. 28: MBCC > Flamingo Ballroom 4, Hall C Entrance, city commission workshop.

March 27: MBCC > Flamingo Ballroom 4, Hall C Entrance, city commission workshop and public meeting with 3D diagrams that will show scale.

May 13/May 15: Location not determined, city commission meeting to vet completed master plans and terms of proposed letters of interest. June 5: City commission chamber, commission meeting to select the final proposer.

The series that started with The Record: Contemporary Art & Vinyl at the MAM, a couple of weeks ago, continues this fun look back on the Disco history of vinyl in Miami – the producers, manufacturers, talent/artists, distributors, buyers, etc. … “the music biz in its glory”.

April 5, 2012 – Panel discussion begins 6:30pm, doors open 6pm (limited seating):
Willie J. Clarkelegendary Miami producer and songwriter
Jeff Lemlich – Music historian; author of Savage Lost: Florida Garage Bands, The ’60s and Beyond; founder of Limestone Lounge Florida Music Forum
Henry Stone – founder and owner of the famed TK Records, home of disco stars KC and the Sunshine Band; known for defining the “Miami sound” since the 1960s.

Some big players present, Willie Clarke & Henry Stone (pres. TK Records) going through a lot of fun stories, of what it was like back in the day and who some of the people they worked with back then.

Good to hear collectors/historians Andrew Yeomanson & Jeff Lemlich tell their side as a fan/collector that paints a picture of a Miami Music landscape, called the Miami-sound. Great gathering of various different people, from different corners of Miami.
